holy mountain

The second part of my birthday celebration was a visit to Banal na Bundok,a religious site situated in Brgy Sibul, also in San Miguel BUlacan. This site is less than an hour drive away from the town proper and is best to be reached if you have a private vehicle, otherwise, you have to rent a tricycle going to the location and back.
There is no designated parking at the place, you can park anywhere there is space, but, of course at your own risk. It was a weekday when we get there so we didn't experience anything bad about parking our vehicle and all plus it's less crowded, which made our visit to the location better.

When I set foot to the site, I start wondering why it was called Banal na Bundok while in fact, first of, it is not a mountain but a hill. Well, there are religious figures surrounding the place, so I thought that’s maybe why, But at the back of mind I know there’s more to it than just those statues. Around the hill, you would see most, if not all of the guardian angels' life-size statues. There’s Angel Gabriel, Uriel among many others.

Going up the hill is like going back to how our religion started. In every stop is a significant scene from the 14 stations of the cross and it is said that the  number of steps to the top of the hill is exactly the same as the total beads of the rosary, so you can pray it all the way to the summit and back.

At the top are small chapels where Santo Intierro, Sto, NiƱo and some other saints rests. There’s also a holy cross which is almost a size of a 4 storey building beside one of the chapels.

As we walk all the way to the top, I was able to talk to one of the locals and I’ve known that the city mayor owns the place. He named this attraction as such because of the view you would see atop the hill. I had goose bumps when I looked at it. It’s exactly the same as the image of Santo Intierro, Jesus dead body as it lays down the coffin.

Our visit didn’t end there. We also checked the mini zoo down the hill. There is an entrance fee to the zoo for maintenance and stuff. Not bad at 50.00/person as it already includes cottage rental where you can stay and put your belongings to all the time you’re at the place.

As we explore the place, some of the animals we saw are raccoons, monkeys, crocodiles, tigers, big snakes, camel, eagles and different species of birds.

We enjoyed the visit to the site and we’re planning to do a lot more similar activities this year to strengthen the bond and nurture the love we have for each other.
